The direct sales model means you cannot generally try before you buy. The upside is a great-value computer built to your individual specifications. |

Dell became the world's largest computer manufacturer by selling high-performance PCs for less than its competitors. It achieved this by selling direct to customers, cutting out expensive high-street stores and allowing its customers to create a custom-computer with no expensive features that they didn't require.
Today, Dell continues to be the manufacturer of choice for home-users and multinational corporations worldwide. Prices are extremely competitive without compromising performance or customer/technical support - a winning combination.
We particularly like Dell's laptop range, especially its lightweight models (such as the Inspiron X1) - computers that pack an enormous amount of power into an extremely small case. If you are looking for serious gaming power, Dell's desktop range remains particularly good value if you are not concerned about portability. We recommend the Dell Precision range - ideal for power-hungry applications such as 3D design, analysis, digital video editing and animation.
From personal experience, we cannot fault Dell's technical support. In particular, we recommend Dell's next-day on-site technical warranty, which we have used often in our company's history. This really helps to minimise IT downtime and we have been consistently impressed with the IT technicians' abilities.
In terms of inability to try-before-you-buy, we do not really see this as a disadvantage for Dell. Firstly, Dell offers a money-back guarantee if you decide that your new computer is not for you; secondly, the direct-sales model allows you to take advantage of the cheapest prices available for a computer designed individually for you. |

Review by s.raja - 14 November 2007 It's all very well singing the praises of Dell's after sales service..but remember one thing, that the return policy is only for personal customers. For business customers, even if you (like me) accidentally ordered the wrong TFT size Screen with your PC, and pleaded with Dell to upgrade to a larger screen..and offer to pay the freight, all within minutes of opening the package...the answer would NO! If you v'e taken receipt of the package and your'e not a consumer that is protected by rights, then you can go to hell!..says Dell!! |
Review by Rose - 8 October 2007 The name itself carries the fame which i will not deny. So far, Dell has been the best in the market. Its easy to get to their customer service and technical help without much delay to rectify problems which others failed. Thumbs up to dell |
